Hailing from the streets of Los Angeles, Gunpowder Secrets (GPS) is a punk/rock band that delivers. Composed of lead vocalist Mo Smesme, guitarists Cole Dickey and Brandon Wood, and the rhythm section of bassist Nathan Hostetter and drummer J.D. Sakamoto, GPS had all taken part in various bands connected to the punk/alternative/ hard rock scene in and around Los Angeles before coming together in 2009. With influences that range from Blink 182, the Deftones, Thursday, Social Distortion, My Chemical Romance, and Rage Against the Machine the 5 piece GPS has created a sonically pleasing raging rock act with a hypnotic twist.
Regularly taking center stage at LA's top venues including House of Blues Sunset (mainstage), Key Club, Viper Room, Roxy, Troubadour, and the Whiskey A Go Go the intensely driven Gunpowder Secrets has built an ever-increasing following and reached #2 on the World Famous KROQ's "Locals Only" playlist with their current single "Something That's Worth It" and can also be heard on playlists across the country.
"GPS have managed to produce songs that are radio friendly without sacrificing originality. In fact these compositions are so densely layered and intricately textured that there is never a dull moment..There's no question that Gunpowder Secrets is ready for primetime." - August 2011 Music Connection Magazine
In addition to creating a name in the indie rock and alternative arenas, this crossover power-pop act was named "Top 5 Artist" for KIIS FM's Competition in 2011. In August of 2011, they played a lead spot at the coveted opening reception party for the Sunset Strip Music Festival, headlined by Motley Crue. GPS recently returned from their Escape From LA Tour where they packed audiences throughout the Midwest and back, taking time out (and themselves not too seriously) by shooting a video diary documenting the journey.
With their current EP "Something That's Worth It," GPS gives listeners hard-hitting infectious grooves and powerful lyrics, along with the bonus remixed version, "The Bear Bones" infusing the contemporary sounds of dub-step (delivered by Fault Records recording artist Jommeka), into the already charged original composition.
